Stalin was brutal but competent. The USSR's industrialization under him was pretty amazing and probably one of the biggest reasons they could resist the Nazis
Mao was brutal and incompetent. He killed millions of people in his attempts to industrialize, just like Stalin did, but unlike Stalin, he got nowhere with it
At least Stalin had something to show for all the human suffering he inflicted

I can see this getting bad, quickly. He probably just ostracized himself from any other public platforms, including the alt rights. With his narcissism, him freaking out in private is probably worse than in public. People will abandon him and he won't have a voice to cry out like he has been. Not going to end well
29
u/the_real_JFK_killer Dec 01 '22
If it were anyone else I'd agree, but the man is worth 400 million. With 2 billion more in assets frozen, that he'll likely get back at some point. The man can pull a Donald Trump and just make his own platform. Also wdym by not going to end well, do you think he's gonna become violent/suicidal?
64
u/ghtuy Dec 01 '22
do you think he's gonna become violent/suicidal?
He very well could at some point, and he is at higher risk of these things than most people due to his condition. Regardless of what one's opinion of him is, it's a tragedy when any person feels so hopeless that they resort to harming themselves or others.

You don't have to feel remorse for him if you don't want to (in this morbid hypothetical), but I hope you can have enough empathy to regret that another human's situation would end up that way (in this morbid hypothetical). I don't like him either, but he's still a person.
12
u/The_Woman_of_Gont Dec 02 '22
Honestly the point at which you start advocating for Nazis, I don't give a shit about your life.
I'd hope people in his life are not evil enough to support him in these views, and care about him enough to get him the help he clearly needs. But he's not owed my personal sympathy or empathy, he lost that as soon as he began advocating for an ideology that would see me dead and which has killed millions.
If he dies before he changes his views, I'll not feel particularly bad about one less Nazi in the world and I'm tired of having to pretend like I should.

They are kind and extremely empathetic, they are intelligent, they are possibly creative (they can kind of paint and make crude tools, IIRC), they are social creatures that do what is best for the herd, and they are strong and powerful when they need to be. They know what's it's like to be persecuted just for how they look (poachers, because tusks), and will therefore work hard for the most disenfranchised among us. Also, they're charismatic, can project while public speaking (but no flash photography pls), they're family-oriented, and they're cute AF.
Elephants are working class heroes.

→ More replies35
u/4DozenSalamanders Dec 02 '22
This, but he also compared being divorced to being gay, and said his church wouldn't be homophobic because they didn't excommunicate him for getting a divorce, lmao. Hillsong Church, is in fact homophobic and does not support gay marriage or as they call it, the "gay lifestyle" and they do have a history of referring members to conversion therapy, and gay members aren't allowed to have any leadership position, as it would be a "bad influence" to other members. Chris Pratt distanced himself and now claims he never went to Hillsong and instead goes to Zoe Church, but this church is basically the Walmart version of Hillsong and has the same policies, and is basically just another branch (Now the gays are "sexual brokenness" so you know, at least it's creative and something new)
He also posts a lot of "middle-aged Christian dad" sort of vibes, which really doesn't help matters; namely the cross thing and the "don't tread on me shirt" come to mind, but there's also a weird abundance of "wife incompetent" humor, which alone doesn't mean anything too problematic, but it's just the culmination of everything, especially with the context of how Christian politics have been poisoning the US as of late.
20
u/NowATL Dec 02 '22
Don’t forget how he was posting about how proud he was of his new wife giving birth to a healthy kid, which on its own isn’t bad, until you remember that he and Anna Farris have a disabled child who he has basically been ignoring for years…

yeah, which is surreal, because neo-nazis don't want him to be president (they're fine with him being "one of the good ones" I'm sure, but not president).
and people who hate nazis don't want him to be president, especially now.
so it only leaves people who aren't neo nazis but tolerate neo nazis, basically a small subset of particularly nutty hard core libertarians.
→ More replies35
u/LoveFishSticks Dec 01 '22

Libertarian groups tend to be full of people who just want a more presentable facade for their belief that "undesirables" have to be kept in extreme econonomic dependence and vulnerability to discrimination... Social Darwinists who are ready to switch to a seemingly polar opposite authoritarian approach at the flip of a dime.
Their protests to this description is not entirely hypocritical. They often don't even realise it, because this mentality is very easy to disguise with perspectives like "nobody is entitled to other peoples' labour", "people have to learn self-responsibility" etc. Nonetheless, that's the brutal reality it comes down to.

Neither you nor I have the time to read every single news article written in a single day, let alone a week or a year. So yes, the grand majority of news for most people will be a headline that hopefully gets the main point across.

u/Prompus Dec 02 '22
Critical thought? You mean reading the article to see for yourself, something which you obviously hadn't done or else you wouldn't think it was dubious because it's just as blatant at this. In fact, it was more antisemetic than this. So it's pretty funny you use the term critical thought when for you it involves not reading the article or consuming any further information, just deciding whether it's true based on your apparent belief that Jews like to hide behind the term antisemetism and use it to deflect from criticism.

But how he got from ‘Bush doesn’t care about black people’ to ‘White lives matter’ and the Black Israelite Nazi combo is alarming. It’s far beyond a PR stunt or ‘normal’ toxic behavior. It’s destructive, but mostly it’s delusional and contradictory, and even asshole extraordinaire Alex Jones is taken aback. The suddenness of his radical change in beliefs is also coinciding with major shakeups in his personal life. TLDR it’s probably both.
