Joking aside, Kanye may be actually mentally deteriorating. Bipolar disorder unchecked can wreak havoc on the brain's chemistry over time.

Big reason I stay on my meds, I remember my... reality? slowly disintegrating when I was first diagnosed with Bipolar in college. I was also getting schizoactive in that time. It was weird and scary for sure.

Anyway, I hope he gets medical care, if at least for the sake of getting him out of the media spotlight. Sadly the media loves mental breakdowns, and almost encourages stories that can make them worse.

Edit: folks here think I'm trying to make an excuse for him- increasingly intense mental illness is not an excuse for antisemitism, but it's an explanation for his behavior. Maybe think of it this way- I can explain how US foreign policy and intelligence screw ups led to 9/11 without using it to excuse Al-Qaeda from committing terrorism.

Folks often think mentally ill people have no control over themselves and our actions are predetermined by our illness. The fact is, we have control, but it's diminished due to our circumstance. To me this helps solve the free will/ determinism debate, as it shows the greyness between the two. It's not a question of "what choice did he have? Oh well, crazies will be crazy" but more of "how much control does he have?" Not 0%, but also not 100%. He still needs to be held accountable, but with treatment he can up those percentage points and maybe have more clarity to why he is wrong.

248

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '22

My memory before meds is so hazy that I don’t think I was ever really “me.”

It’s like a 30 year old life in pieces of my brain that don’t connect together in any meaningful way.

Does that make any sense?

156

u/HomerJSimpson3 Dec 02 '22 Take My Energy

It does. I am a recovering alcoholic with depression. The 10 years of my life before I got sober feel more like a dream than real memories. Most memories are separate from each other.

61

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '22

Damn I had no idea this was a thing. I always felt alone, and no one believes me either.

48

u/HomerJSimpson3 Dec 02 '22

Definitely not alone. Most people can’t understand something like this without going through it themselves. Hopefully they never do because it fucking sucks. I’m hoping you’re getting better and stronger every day, my friend.

17

u/lol_AwkwardSilence_ Dec 02 '22

It’s not just deteriorating. Dude has a whole slew of mental issues he has had for years that media has fed into by giving him air time and his family by not trying to get him admitted. Dude is insane and needs help. Has been like that for a LONG time.

165

u/kabneenan Dec 02 '22

his family by not trying to get him admitted.

They very well may have tried to have him admitted. Speaking as someone who has a parent with diagnosed but untreated bipolar disorder, there is only so much you can do if the person does not want treatment. So I don't think it's fair to blame Ye's family. Taking care of one's health is one's own responsibility, mental health included.

109

u/sourpatch1708 Dec 02 '22

As a mental health professional it is nearly impossible to have someone get treatment against their will. It's difficult just to get them in the hospital for a few days much less court ordered to stay on medications permanently. No one can blame his family bc I'm certain they have tried. I'm sure this is what led to a divorce and so many other issues in his support system. And now it's why he's an easy target for gaslighters and manipulators who know hoe to convince him what he is doing is okay. (Not that it's excused at all) but it's very sad.

59

u/roses4keks Dec 02 '22

Seriously this. I don't doubt that his family tried to help. But eventually, you reach a point where you can't martyr yourself to save someone who doesn't want to be saved. And at that point you just need to get out while you still can. And that sounds like what his family ended up doing.

I really hope Kim is shielding the kids from him. I don't like the Kardashians. But I'd take them over Kanye any day. I can't imagine how hard it would be to grow up with a lunatic like this trying to control your life or shape your upbringing.

21

u/tillie4meee Dec 02 '22

I am also very concerned for his children who (I think) must "visit" him without supervision.

I try not to ponder what might happen. When I do - all I get are very frightening thoughts.

1.0k

u/Witness_me_Karsa Dec 01 '22

Yes, those who served the master directly and lived in the house often truly were treated relatively well. This is one of the reasons people used to talk about how their parents were nice to slaves when they were little, and it's because they only met those who worked in the house.

Using some among the oppressed in order to break the spirit of the others has always been part of the deal. The nazis used it, too, and had jews sell out other jews so that they thought that they were "safe".

901

u/AbeRego Dec 01 '22

The Nazis literally used the Jim Crow South as a model for how to oppress Jews in Germany.

European fascism drew on ideas that bad been cultivated in the Southern US for over a century.

265

u/Redpin Dec 01 '22

The Nazis also knew enough about Jim Crow to leverage it for propaganda directed at black soldiers as well!

It’s also tied to how racially divided Latin American countries are. Light skinned Latinos, who are viewed as “white” in their counties come to America thinking they will be treated the same.

My grandmother, despite being born in South America, claims she’s Spanish for this same reason. She’s light skinned.

126

u/Lord_Kano Dec 01 '22

It’s also tied to how racially divided Latin American countries are. Light skinned Latinos, who are viewed as “white” in their counties come to America thinking they will be treated the same.

That reminds me of the essay "A White Woman Of Color".

She was considered "White" in the Dominican Republic and thought that would apply in the USA. She got here and found out that she was BROWN and Not-White.

88

u/PaxNova Dec 01 '22

"White" has always been malleable. When Hispanics become the majority in the US, you can bet that they'll become "white" too, like Italians and Irish before them. It simply defines the smallest group that can still be perceived as the majority.

At one part he has Justin Bieber visiting him, and Kanye’s just on a rant about absolute nonsense while Justin has a look on his face that says’ “mister mister! Get me outta here!”

u/Jayco424 Dec 02 '22

I remember seeing that! I'm I'm not a Bieber fan at all, but seriously poor Justin looked terrified!

During his child custody case it did come out that Alex had been clinically diagnosed as a narcissist, I believe. Obviously, it’s possible to be both a grifter and a narcissist. In fact, it might be pretty big benefit to bothZ

130

u/dwilkes827 Dec 01 '22

huh, I honestly didn't know narcissism was something that was clinically diagnosed

173

u/YouNeedAnne Dec 01 '22

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is, but you can be narcissistic without having NPD.

Kanye is mentally ill. He’s also a scumbag.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah I can’t even imagine Spotify letting him put out new music by this point or any venues letting him do any concerts. Once you cross the Nazi line it’s game over.

That’s mostly obscure shit that almost nobody knows or cares about, Kanye still on spotify will make headlines. Whether they act is another story.

edit: Also that article fucking sucks, calling Mayhem NSBM and saying norwegian black metal is death metal. Typical adl publishing bullshit that sounds like it will cause outrage.

I think it's time that, as a country, we stop giving Kanye any attention whatsoever. Let him lose all his money on bad investments and dropped sponsorships, let him go to a cushy mental rehabilitation center, let him just live out his life. It doesn't matter how good his music is, he's literally losing his mind and is doing so much more damage than good. His insanity is spreading and for some reason people are still paying him to appear on their shows.

It's time to let Kanye go.

189

u/aar19 Dec 01 '22

“For some reason people are still paying him to appear on their shows”

They are taking advantage of someone’s mental illness because they know he’ll believe the fucked up conspiracy’s they show him.

I couldn’t tell you another person who Alex Jones has had on his show recently, but he pays Kanye to come on, gets him going until he says something controversial like this, and now his show is making headlines.

"The holocaust is not what happened".
"He didn't kill 6 million jews".
"Obama was not the first black president he was another jewish president".
"They did good things too we should stop dissing the nazis all the time".

That guy went full throttle in his anti-semitism and hate toward jews.

I think slowly outside of the most extreme nazi far right places, no one is going to give west any platform to talk at in fear of being associated with his mental breakdown.

This is all going to end with Kanye killing someone.

I don't mean his rhetoric getting someone killed. That'll happen too. He's actually going to end up killing someone.

I'm really glad that he's being so transparent about how fucked up he is. Rather than inferring his antisemitism like most of these characters he is actually refreshingly clear about his stance. He's still totally nuts and deserves to have his reputation utterly destroyed but at least he's not trying to hide it. People gave Ye the benefit of the doubt SO MANY TIMES throughout his career because of his musical success but this is indefensible. I don't particularly care for Kim's influence either but I really feel for her in this and hope she keeps the kids well away from him.

Strange because he was always such a stable, normal guy

157

u/LordAnon5703 Dec 01 '22

I mean, this definitely just seems like he's mentally ill now. Like seriously, quickly declining. This is actually exactly what happened in Chicago with a very famous sign holder. Literally almost overnight going from a well-dressed professional to claiming that an FBI agent took his wife, his kids, and was raping him, his wife, and or his kids.

That's the line that really struck me. That he thinks the Israelis want to take his kid. This isn't the same thing as Donald Trump or DeSantis anymore. It should honestly be illegal to give a platform to somebody like this, because now it's just a freak show. This probably should be considered exploitative.

34

u/eeeedlef Dec 02 '22

Now? He's been diagnosed for a long time and has been quite open about his desire to not take prescribed medication. He's honestly a danger to himself at this point.

Ye held up an orange net and a bottle of Yoo-hoo chocolate drink, which he claimed represented Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu.

While I'm definitely disgusted with Kanye's "we've got to stop dissing the Nazis" bullshit, this right here is just too damn weird. He actually knows who Netanyahu is? I'm a little lost with the metaphor...

Fuck Ye. I'm done reading anything about him. Maybe I'll check his obituary when it comes out in a few months.

Man I’m just fucking upset about this whole thing. I’ve been a pretty huge kanye fan since before his first album came out. Over the years it’s been harder and harder to support him. I stopped listening to his music 6 months ago and he was still number 2 on my Spotify wrapped this year. Had to explain that to a few friends haha.

Just sucks this is what one of my favorite artists of all time has become.
