Any idea how to download voice-mail messages from years ago?

Upvotes

I was able to charge some decade old phones. I have messages from people that are no longer with the living. I would love to save these messages. I'm not tech savvy.

Why does most modern media just feel "off" or "seedy"?

Upvotes

It just seems like something is "off" with most shows and movies put out in the last few years. The lighting, camera angles, acting, it all feels vaugly like a seedy/dark for some reason (even for shows where that doesn't make sense like reality TV)

I don't get this vibe from animated shows, but it seems like most animation is either ugly or has a weird sexual tension. I was watching a new episode of SpongeBob recently and everything was just so ugly.

I don't get this vibe from stuff made 10+ years ago, even stuff that is explicitly meant to have a sexual plot/stories lines like Sex and the City or sitcoms that made lots of sex/edgy joke.

It seems like everything new on Netflix has this vibe. The only thing new that I've watch that didn't have this vibe was squid games (ironically).

Can someone that knows about flim/TV explain why I'm picking up this vibe? Has something changed in how shows are shot/produced? I feel like it has something to do with how things are flimed, but im not sure. Is thus just me? I asked some friends and they said they noticed it too.

Why do my hand calluses keep coming back?

Upvotes

I used to lift pretty regularly several years ago and got calluses on my hands from the bar. It's been years since then and I've fallen off lifting in that time but I still have calluses on my hands. About once or twice a year, they start to peel off and then grow back without any outside stimulus. Everything I know about how calluses work tells me they shouldn't be growing back in absence of the stimuli that caused them to form. What is causing this to happen?

Why dont we just drop a large thing of raccoons into garbage dumps and let their population thrive?

Upvotes

I had this thought while high and realized, we could let the raccon population just thrive in a dump, thus eating a large percentage of the food waste Why don't we do this? How bad of an idea is it? Cuz i understand in the city, terrible idea, raccoons are pesky, but in a dump, shouldnt it be fine?

Unanswered Can you really notice when a video game is running >60fps?

Upvotes

I’ve got a formal education that involved studying the brain, and was taught that humans cannot process visual information faster than 60fps. However, some gamer friends of mine swear by their pc monitors running 90-120fps somehow appearing smoother. Is this really the case?

How is putting a piece of trash on the street where it will not affect the ecosystems or might be in a train where it will get filtered out worse than putting something in the trash where it will go to a landfill or the ocean? Are people just trying to be holier than thou when it’s purely a cleanliness issue?

I know this is touchy but I feel like I'm here for the right reasons, my living grandad fought in WW2 so I need to do my part and stand up for him.
1. A big talking point is that it isn't possible for 1.1 million people to have died in aushwitz, I believe it was a very big camp and was entirely possible, but they say the math doesn't check out for that many people to have been killed there in the time it was running. Is it possible for so many people to have been gassed at one camp? how?
2. Another big point is the numbers being fudged to give the jewish people social protection, as in 6 million jews may have either died in the war (but not the camps), or that no where near that number actually died at all. What should I say to rebuttle this?
Thanks for anyone that takes the time to respond.

Should I distance myself from my family for trying to correct traits of mine that I do subconsciously/that I find comfortable?

Upvotes

So I might be on the autism spectrum and I guess I do traits without knowing that show it. Sometimes when I'm sitting, usually in the passenger seat if I don't have anything in my hands whatsoever, idk if it's part of it but y mom says I do so similar to a child, and I hold two fingers of one hand with the other. I didn't think it was obvious and have done this throughout my life, whether it's posing for pictures or lately when I'm anxious in the car. I don't see any harm in it as it brings me comfort however I'm 26 and apparently, I'm "going backwards" and acting like a child still. The thing is again, it brings me peace/comfort, and something I do without realizing it, I also don't see the harm it in. Apparently though it's childlike and weird though so no one else does it, so I have to be "corrected" on it even though I've done it the rest of my life and apparently then it was okay

What would happen if today's powerplants, nuclear and otherwise, were suddenly left unattended?

Upvotes

So lets say classic apocalypse rapture type situation, poof everyone gone or otherwise unable to attend to these facilities. How stable are they to be suddenly left unattended? How long can a nuclear powerplant operate in "stand-by" mode with no input? Will it eventually blow up? Leak? Or just sit there and get reclaimed by nature like everything else?

If chiropractic is a pseudoscience, why does it feel better after adjustments?

Upvotes

This may sound biased but I am genuinely asking!
Like right now my lower back is killing me, despite the different stretches I'm trying, and I'm going to the chiro tomorrow so I get adjusted and it stops hurting. And I know it will, cause I've done this before. Is the adjustment just masking the issue? Is the only cure for back pain surgery?

Or another example, I have a rib that regularly dislodges itself for fun, and the chiro pops it back into place, something I can't do myself and something I wouldn't trust my parent looking on youtube for a tutorial and trying it on me. So what's the reason for that too?

Again, asking for research and learning, I'm not saying people aren't valid for saying chiropractic is a sham. I'll keep going cause it works for me but I want to know why it works, I guess, since it's fake!

Unanswered What is with the widespread hate of having your steak cooked Well Done?

Upvotes

I've had a lot of steak across the spectrum of rarity from some pretty good restaurants and after having enough of each rarity, Well Done is my favorite.

Why is it looked down upon so much to ask for your steak well done? Is it a sense of entitlement or something else?

My school literally forces activities that require a partner to work with even though I could do better alone. Why is this? Also, why does everyone force the introverted to talk and socialize while no one forces the extroverted to be quiet for even a second?

Why are people in social media so defensive of online dating?

Upvotes

I am someone who had more luck meeting women, dating, being partnered through social groups rather than online dating.

For years I used online dating and had no luck due to catfishing, ghosting, zombieing, being jerked around or insulted, getting no matches or just simply not meeting people I clicked with.

I started going to meetups and found a group I liked, dated a few of the women while remaining friends after when it didn't work. Had a relationship of two years that split but were now friends.

When I mention this to some friends and even on social media, I get so many defenders trying to tell me that my lack of success on the dating apps was my fault and that it was something I was doing wrong.

I found great stuff about the issues relating to the apps and the algorithm, plus the shady side of the business end of things, but they just dismiss it and still insist it was something I did wrong. Why did meetup work then?

Can't it just be that some forms of dating work for some while not for others?
