Just gonna add this to top comment cos I wanna say it;

We can do this too! All (some/most) animals do this, all the time, and this is a really clean shave taken in a dope video but conservation of motion and inertia come naturally to pretty much all creatures that run around.

Think about (maybe when you were young if you got bad knees nowadays or don’t do this lol) when you jump off something around the height of your body weight; you mostly walk off it, but if you pay attention to your stance, or see someone else do it, you’ll see them “coil” in the direction of the landing. It’s basically the same effect, it’s an important aspect for gymnastics to know your center of weight and be able to “curl” around it.

The dog prolly doesn’t even think about pulling up tight as they scrape over the hill; our brains just do it on autopilot. It’s super dope

That’s amazing. Doggo knew what’s up

286

u/u9Nails Sep 24 '22

Yeah. He did the math. Knew his head was over the jump and just tucks in his legs.

124

u/Flomo420 Sep 25 '22

I'm seriously constantly amazed by the agility of animals.

40

u/shtuffit Sep 25 '22

Time perception baby. One cool ass mindfuck

47

u/Metro42014 Sep 25 '22 edited Sep 25 '22

Oh dang, I had to look it up, about 25% more time perceived by dogs!

Really cool video talking about how we can determine the time perception of other animals!

37

u/ImInevitableyall Sep 25 '22

That's why I do meth: so my dog and I can exist on the same temporal plane. Yeah, that's why.

→ More replies

12

u/TheImminentFate Sep 25 '22

the temporal resolution of your reality is essentially limited to 60 frames per second

This one hurt in an otherwise great video

5

u/Metro42014 Sep 25 '22

I always think of that on average and in general, rather than with specific people in specific situations.

5

u/Androthi_II Sep 25 '22

My perception of time makes that video way too long. Can I get a TL:DW?

In all seriousness though, at least 10 commercial breaks I saw before noping out.

8

u/CloseButNoDice Sep 25 '22

Aww that sucks, he's one of my favorites and it's a great video but I didn't have to deal with the ads. Basically animals with higher metabolisms (mostly smaller animals) perceive time at a higher rate. So dogs have a higher metabolic rate and literally perceive the world as moving slower around them than we do and that affects a bunch of stuff.

2

u/polopolo05 Sep 25 '22

They dont perceive time faster they just can process info faster.

Border Collies Australian Shepherds are fucking insane

91

u/Maebure83 Sep 25 '22

Yeah I had one that wrote on the walls about an alien invasion. Used to get up in your face when you turned the microwave on screaming the first 20 digits of Pi while his eye twitched.

Fucking Roscoe was something else man. I'm never getting another Border Collie.

33

u/AlconTheFalcon Sep 25 '22

And Roscoe was the world's least intense Border Collie

3

u/AlCapooter Sep 25 '22

Dude I've got one named Gypsy hands down the smartest animal I've ever owned. After having kids and not getting daily 2hr walks on the disc golf course she started running away and it was impossible to stop. Open windows, she learned how to press open the front storm door, over fences, under fences, even escaped the pound once. No joke we got a call from the puppy police that they had grabbed her but she escaped their kennels, we found her about a 1/2 mi from home she had traveled about 1.5mi through the city already to get there. She knows how to open all our lever type doors, if I ask her 'wanna go play frisbee' she'll go collect her leash and harness. Learns any trick we want to teach in no time, it's insane.

Amazing dog, I wish I had the time to provide what she truly needs. We're only now just doing great with no escapes or anything now that she's 7, but man if you had the time you could train those dogs whatever. Quite a shock after owning lazy labs lol.

3

u/Maebure83 Sep 25 '22

That was a very apt name for her that you chose. She has a desire to wander and explore.

53

u/WhiskersTheSpider Sep 25 '22

2

u/Dovahpriest Sep 25 '22

Dislocated my knee while sitting on my bed.

1

u/booaka Sep 25 '22

I've dislocated my shoulder too many times including while asleep but how does one dislocate a knee sitting on a bed? Sitting and ???

1

u/Dovahpriest Sep 25 '22

Sat down, twisted right to grab PS4 controller off of the bedside table. Upper leg moved, lower leg did not.

1

u/booaka Sep 25 '22

Hope the doctor didn't tell you you'll never play again

1

u/booaka Sep 25 '22

Dislocating joints not only hurts like hell but looks really weird, too

2

u/reddit_reaper Sep 25 '22

.....i fucked up my ankle by falling asleep on the toilet for an hour and trying to walk afterwards when it was completely asleep... Does that count? Lol

1

u/well_actuallE Sep 25 '22

My aunt did this too (although she didn’t fall asleep, only her foot). Ive lived in fear of this happening ever since.

I have a fave pass time of laughing at and saying "nobody saw that" when people stumble over nothing and look back. We all know if you stumble over nothing you always look back. The best is the drunk college dudes that pretend to fight telephone poles or parking meters!

I think the best was a kid and his buddies hitting a meter until it bought him a new slice of pizza. I am pretty sure they got enough quarters for a slice, but not their med bills.

The funny thing is, that's slowed down as well. Idk by how much, but it definitely isn't regular speed.

people with dogs that take them for runs on bike trails are the biggest aholes around. I don't care how well you think you've trained your doggo, or how many times you've brought him here before without problem, or whatever else BS you can can up with, KEEP. YOUR. FUCKING. POOCH. OF. THE. TRAIL.

For our safety and your dogs. I've seen so many people get in a tango with a dog on a trail it's not funny. Hit the dog and over the bars, swerve off to avoid the dog and crash. Hit the dog and damage the dog. Dogs running too fast and hitting other riders, or stopping suddenly or getting too close to pedals. It's just not worth it my guy.

You cannot 100% guarantee that your dog will behave the same way as the last time you went out and took him for a run.
