Sad state of affairs for a group of people that basically just want to be left alone.

From the Article:

“It seems that China is taking another step forward in developing surveillance technologies further as part of a “crime detection” program.

According to a report published by Human Rights Watch on September 5, Chinese authorities are collecting DNA samples through finger-prick devices from Tibetan residents across the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR). It’s stated that residents are not allowed to decline the police’s request, and people don’t have to be criminal suspects to be asked for their samples, while children at kindergartens were asked to submit their DNAs without their parents’ consent.

The drives of DNA collections have been identified in 14 distinct locations across seven municipalities of the TAR in the western part of the Tibetan plateau. These locations include one prefecture, two counties, two towns, two townships, and seven villages.

Police have been conducting a mass DNA collection program since 2016 until now, according to another research published by The Citizen Lab of the University of Toronto. Analyzing 100 public sources, the lab found out that police may have collected between roughly 919,282 and 1,206,962 DNA samples from 2016 to 2022.”

“Crime detection” aka we will harass any family members if we want to find someone.

18

u/SuperToxin Sep 18 '22

That's insane.

22

u/mrmateo88 Sep 18 '22

I work in a Han majority city far from Tibet. All students need to do the finger prick this week.

114

u/second2no1 Sep 18 '22

I smell genocide…

6

u/ConfusionOfTheMind Sep 18 '22

Wouldn't exactly be their first time trying to wipe out the Tibetans...

41

u/Rich_Two Sep 18 '22

It’s more than that dude. That what the 23 and me thing was. They’re doing this to everyone. It’s just rich people they can trick into doing it by showing them their “ancestry”.

5

u/thatblbc Sep 19 '22

Yeah I never brought into all that. Big tech CAN NOT be trusted with your data. Just assume what ever they tell you is a lie

2

u/Rich_Two Sep 19 '22

People like you that can critically examine the non-sense of this world and just say thanks but I'm going to kindly say no are really what is keeping technology from ruining our lives. Every website asking if you'd like to receive notifications, every website wanting to know your personal information in exchange for a semi-usable 10% off coupon, every company being asked to upgrade to software that clearly isn't needed and then has bugs that compromise security.

It's the holdouts like you that keep them from just taking power and ruining everything that we have built in a power grab for the ability to control the population. Thank you!

22

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

It’s more than that dude. That what the 23 and me thing was.

What, genocide?

It’s just rich people they can trick into doing it by showing them their “ancestry”.

Are you implying it’s not real ancestry or what?

24

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '22

[deleted]

-1

u/Duamerthrax Sep 18 '22

Isn't the ancestry basd on self reporting and finding common gene markers?

It also isn't real ancestry because humans are a culture based organism. The people we grow up around decides who we are, not the place the genes came from.

20

u/voiderest Sep 18 '22

The issue with giving up dna is that those companies can end up using it for other purposes. Maybe not genocide but let's say the government wants to identify someone. Well, they might be able to by search a database of DNA even if only the target's family members are in the database.

Also as the tech or science improves they might predict genetic disorders from this information. That might be used against a person depending on the laws surrounding it.

4

u/Duamerthrax Sep 18 '22

Agreed, but people aren't getting their dna tested for diseases. They're getting tested for social media vanity and getting added to insecure databases run by corporate suits or religious zelots.

7

u/Rich_Two Sep 18 '22

Then after they are done running the test, they sell your information and the rest of the dna sample to the highest bidder. It’s literally written in the fine print on their website.

4

u/bcmonke Sep 19 '22

Even if the databases are secure they'll sell the info off eventually to the highest bidder

2

u/thatblbc Sep 19 '22

There was a company that claimed X, took dna samples, aaaand sold the info for monetary gain. And people paid them to do this. It’s so dystopian

1

u/TheMadTemplar Sep 19 '22

It's still real ancestry.

1

u/CassandraVindicated Sep 18 '22

Yeah, I dropped my resistance once my brother got himself tested. If they have his DNA, it's close enough to mine to put me on their radar. I mean, all they have to do is go to him and ask "If one of your relatives committed a crime, who would you guess it would be?" He's a nark, he'd give me up in a heartbeat.

2

u/riesenarethebest Sep 18 '22

Sorry your brother's both awful and an idiot

2

u/CassandraVindicated Sep 18 '22

Yeah, he's a company man.

2

u/Rich_Two Sep 18 '22

I’m sure the ancestry is probably as accurate as it can be, not totally true but they’re not lying. They’re just saying your genes resemble stuff.

The point I was trying to make is, after they are done they sell the DNA sample to other companies. And if they’re plotting against people with DNA specific diseases somewhere.... (They are I have well connected friends that have phds in the field). Then who’s next (The Who, 1971)

7

u/z0etrev Sep 18 '22

23andme is voluntary.

this thing CCP is doing, its mandatory.

huge difference. you're either a troll or just dumb to not realize it

9

u/Rich_Two Sep 18 '22

23 and me sells your dna information. It’s says so on their website.

I have lots of colleagues that are high end genetics researchers. They all say that pharmaceutical companies want to own dna, so they can scalp drugs and monopolize medicine.

The difference is that you think only one part of the world is plotting to make everything mandatory. That might be us in a few years, they just have to break the population’s freedom down a little bit more.

10

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

How would that be related? Do you need DNA to kill people, assuming that’s what you mean?

30

u/DisturbedNeo Sep 18 '22

You need DNA to be 100% certain you’re killing the right people.

7

u/EpicGuard Sep 18 '22

If you've already decided that killing mass amounts of people is the solution I don't think getting a few wrong would really be seen as a problem.

8

u/TheVoidWelcomes Sep 18 '22

If you want a homogenous Han genetic population it would be a problem

5

u/Raizzor Sep 18 '22

If you want to commit genocide, sequencing everyone's DNA and putting them in a database is the easiest way to organize who and how many you need to kill.

0

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

I guess it could be. I doubt it's ever been done before, so it's a bit (or a lot) speculative.

2

u/CassandraVindicated Sep 18 '22

Technically, Iceland did it organically.

-9

u/TheVoidWelcomes Sep 18 '22 edited Sep 18 '22

With today’s technology, designer virus’ can be made that would have higher fatality rates if certain genetic markers are present

7

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

That sounds like pretty baseless speculation, but ok :p

I see you didn’t even read said links

Something about Horses and water, right?!

Tell me, precisely, what claim of mine are you challenging?

You should also know that China basically bought Reddit when the Chinese Media Corp TenCent became largest financial sponsor

Many of you clowns are machinations of that apparatus, you steer narratives

It’s funny how I post links to technology and am downvoted viciously, more evidence of a growing climate of anti-Intellectualism

Someone knows nothing of CRISPR and gain of function research UH OH! :-p Allow me to educate the ignorant

Are you always this arrogant? How about you stop with the personal attacks to someone you know nothing about.

So if I understand you correctly, you are saying that China is collecting DNA in order to create a virus to kill Tibetans. Mind telling me how that isn’t speculation?

3

u/Kholzie Sep 18 '22

“Free Tibet” has been a thing for almost all 30 years in my life

7

u/Raizzor Sep 18 '22

It will also never happen, sadly. The region is of utmost strategic importance to China and Tibet never had the means to fight for its independence.

2

u/StKilda20 Sep 19 '22

Historically, Tibet had been a vassal under the Yuan for 100 years and Qing for 200 and never a part of China. Tibet is also still about 70-90% Tibetan.

The White Triad developed a virus that only becomes active in blacks and police who are white. The active virus drives up the desire to kill blacks. This in turn reduces the taxes the WT has to pay as there are fewer blacks to get assistance programs and police violence against blacks drives call for defunding police. WAKE UP!

Looking for more organs that match the ruling elites no doubt. So sad.

3

u/Agreeable-Meat1 Sep 18 '22

They have factories for that in the Xinjiang region. They're even Halal, so the middle eastern elites with all the oil money can safely purchase organs that don't violate their faith.

58

u/Expensive-Photo-25 Sep 18 '22

China's genocide of the Tibetan people continues.

-17

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

How is DNA collection related to that, though?

36

u/wickedaubergine Sep 18 '22

See documentary “Red Reign: The Bloody Harvest of China's Prisoners” about its harvesting of organs from Falun Gong practitioners. It starts with a blood sample, and if they need someone’s organs for a transplant they are “arrested“, never to be seen again. I really hope that I’m wrong, but….

5

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

So the relation would be organ harvesting, you’re saying? Ok.

17

u/Advanced-Session455 Sep 18 '22

The reason would be to identify who to kill. Jews in WWII would lie about their ancestry. This way they can test for your ethnicity

-14

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22 edited Sep 18 '22

Maybe? Ok, but I think you’ll agree that it’s pretty speculative if that would work well enough and especially, if that’s actually the plan.

Edit: It's speculative by definition (go look up what that means), and you people are embarrassing yourselves. Perhaps a course in logic might be good.

6

u/aboysmokingintherain Sep 18 '22

So this is actually true. China has the lowest organ donor wait time on earth following the crackdown for the Falun Gong and its widely known the many Uihygurs say that they’re harvesting live organs from political prisoners.

-11

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

Yes. And it’s even more established that they use organs from prisoners that get the capital punishment. However, I don’t think DNA is used to check organ compatibility.

2

u/OfficerLongJawn Sep 18 '22

Let people speculate you’re in here baselessly defending while others baselessly attack. Stupid arguments all around.

2

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

I am not really defending anyone or anything, though. I am reacting to when people tend to state speculation as if it were facts. There is nothing wrong with speculation, as long as it’s not conflated with facts.

2

u/Advanced-Session455 Sep 18 '22

Dude do you know this is basic science? They could easily develop an on the spot blood test for ethnicity. If you think this is “speculative” looks no further than the Uyghurs

1

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

The speculative part is especially that they are going to systematically kill all Tibetans. Or does “science” tell you that this will happen?

1

u/Raizzor Sep 18 '22

What evidence would you need to see to be convinced that China is systematically killing people and trying to eradicate non-Han cultures? If the existence of deportation and concentration camps as well as the forced settlement of Han Chinese into those regions isn't enough yet.

Controlling Tibet is of utmost strategic importance for the CCP. Them wanting Tibetans gone is not a far-fetched theory, it's pretty obvious if you pay attention to what's happening there.

0

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

What evidence would you need to see to be convinced that China is systematically killing people

Yeah, how about that? I don't think there is any evidence of that.

and trying to eradicate non-Han cultures?

I'm not trying to argue with that part.

But maybe you're misunderstanding. I talked about evidence that they are going to kill all Tibetans, specifically, because that was the claim made, at some point.

Them wanting Tibetans gone is not a far-fetched theory

It's certainly not out of the realm of possibilities, but that doesn't make it a fact. In fact, it's speculation by definition, since it's the future.

it's pretty obvious if you pay attention to what's happening there.

I don't agree that it is. I'd like to see some actual expert on these matters assert that they are going to kill all the tibetans. By experts I mean people with relevant educational credentials and insight.

u/Raizzor Sep 18 '22

China wanting to eradicate Tibetans is speculative? Have you paid any attention to Chinese politics over the past 30 years?

0

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

China wanting to eradicate Tibetans is speculative?

Yes. Claims about the future are. They are not facts, because we don't know if it will happen or not.

2

u/Raizzor Sep 18 '22

You are probably also saying that Russia wanting to invade Ukraine was speculative even after they annexed the Krim and started a war in the Donbas back in 2014.

Eradicating every form of religion in China is a core CCP policy. They are currently working on eradicating a Muslim minority and have planned settlement campaigns to replace the people deported to concentration camps with Han-Chinese. Strategically, Tibet is one of the most important regions for China. So unless you belong to the 50-cent-army, why why would you even think for a second they are not planning to do the exact same thing they are doing to the Uyghurs to Tibet? Why won't they apply their policy of "cleansing" China of any form of religion to Tibet?

1

u/nicuramar Sep 18 '22

You are probably also saying that Russia wanting to invade Ukraine was speculative even after they annexed the Krim and started a war in the Donbas back in 2014.

Yes. I am starting to think you need to check what the word means. Of course it was speculative. It was also something not every expert agreed on would happen or not, or when. That's the thing with the future.

Eradicating every form of religion in China is a core CCP policy.

Maybe, but I wasn't talking about religion, but about literally killing people.

why would you even think for a second they are not planning to do the exact same thing they are doing to the Uyghurs to Tibet?

I didn't realise they have killed all Uyghrs? At any rate, I am not thinking or claiming anything either way. I am saying that it's speculative, that's all. I didn't make any claims about the future.

u/BrownMan65 Sep 18 '22

Falun Gong is a literal cult. I'm sorry, but "documentaries" about cults being treated poorly are purely pro-cult propaganda. Imagine if someone said you should watch a documentary about how much trouble Jim Jones and The People's Temple went through to practice their "religion"? It would be completely ridiculous just like trying to defend Falun Gong.

3

u/pinkjello Sep 19 '22

Imagine if I watched a documentary about how the US government was harvesting organs from Jim Jones or other cult leaders? I’d still be mad.

People can be bad, but it’s still not okay to mistreat them.

-1

u/BrownMan65 Sep 19 '22

What I’m saying is that any documentary showing a cult in any sort of good light or as if they are being attacked should automatically be taken with a grain of salt.

1

u/wickedaubergine Sep 19 '22 edited Sep 19 '22

Kind of. The film maker is American, from the east coast living in California, the friend of a sister, and is not a Falun Gong member. I don’t know how she found out about the story, but she did a great job backing it up with evidence. China publishes a ridiculously low “wait time” for findings donor for transplants in trying to attract medical tourism, for example. It goes on and on.

Being mistreated is one thing. A systematic organ harvesting operation is another thing entirely. I can see why you would want to dismiss such a thing but I would look into it first or you are prone to ignorance.

There has been a book written about it called Bloody Harvest, also made by westerners. Haven’t read it, but they published a pdf report of their investigation that supports the allegations:

http://bloodyharvest.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/organ-harvesting-report20070131-eng.pdf

0

u/pinkjello Sep 20 '22

Is there something specific you find at fault with in the Falun Gong documentary? Because from what you’ve said, you just concluded that because they’re Falun Gong, any claims of mistreatment are null and void.

A cult can be filled with bad people but still be mistreated.

The oppressive measures we observe in China will eventually end up in 'the West' (Europe and its former colonies).

They are just too useful in controlling/'managing' a population.

Our civilization's principles were what prevented us from implementing this kind of thing.

But we've essentially given up on these principles over assorted supposed 'practicalities'.

It's hard to believe that we'd knowingly condemn future generations to live in a totalitarian dystopia but, unless something drastic is done to reverse the trend, that's the way it's going.

You mean literally every hegemonic or almost hegemonic power that has existed in the history of the world?

1

u/Rich_Two Sep 19 '22

What do you get high-roading people? Like what’s your prize?

You’re wasting all your time on the internet telling people hey you think the world is bad guess what everything else is worse. There’s nothing worth living for, except my way of thinking.

It’s a despairing attempt to claim some kind of status from always eliminating yourself from scrutiny. But as a professional I can tell you it doesn’t make you superior. It actually hurts your ability to grow and become someone better, because you become too busy to examine how you could improve and develop.

You can be jaded as you want sure, but if you’re so jaded that you cannot see even the worst people or situations as environments that just need/needed to be improved then you are literally the definition of your own denigration.

No person can live beyond their timeline. No person in the Middle Ages, not matter how rich or how smart could ever conceive and live in a world with a flush toilet and modern sanitation. So what scrutiny does for them will never remove them from that cage. But they can and did accomplish what was necessary to bring us to this moment. So why demonize their life to have a vantage point of some superficial superhero. Because that’s not a story about them, that is also a story about you. You are also stuck in the same kind of cage that someone in the future would say; “and they thought they were so smart fighting and waging battles against things they though were stupid, when they couldn’t even do that simple thing we do at the push of a button.”

Don’t be so trapped that you don’t accomplish the little things like engaging and thinking about difficult problems without jumping around trying to figure out where the most ironic and un-useful position might be and so deciding this will make you sound smart. Because all you will be is lonely and also wrong. But what’s worse lonely.
